Sir:-

With reference to my letter of the 25th ultimo

I have the honour to forward herewith another 1000

Japanese hand carts ordered by the Government of

Hongkong for the use of the British forces in North

China.

As in the previous case these carts are to be

delivered to you set up, oiled, and ready for use:

and the contractor takes over a staff of some 35

workmen for that purpose.

Those carts were ordered

from a sample deposited with me, and I have carefully

inspected them from time to time as they arrived

in lots from Osuka. 926 are made according to

the remaining 74 are of the type of the

sample;

first thousand somewhat modified and improved.

Only

some 300 have the spokes of the wheels rounded,
